Old York: Many experts suggest passing in 4th seat with flat 12, any ideas?
Patrianh: was tempted Tony
amms3: hi p hi opps
Aacol: hi all
amms3: hi wayne
cascade: Good luck and have fun
AngieBB: hi all
sergiop56: hi all HNY
slothy: hi all :)
Aacol: is my card ok p?
AngieBB: y
slothy: rare that i have good luck AND fun :(
slothy: glp
slothy: you will make a trick p dont worry :)
slothy->Kibitzers: well i certainly aint passing 2!D :)
cascade: any questions?
cascade: ===========
slothy: nice try p :)
Aacol: is 2♦ ok?
Old York: the bidding looked ok, the outcome was unkind
cascade: its very minimum for an overcall
slothy: they got 6♣ on?
cascade: and there is a risk vulnerable
cascade: 6♣ needs three suits behaving
slothy: nearly bid 2♥ instead...
cascade: so i am not sure you want to be there
slothy: :)
Patrianh: should N bid 1NT over 2!D
Aacol: can angie safely X 3♦?
cascade: even 5♣ needs hearts behaving and one of the others so isn't such a great contract
Patrianh: disregard pls
cascade: 1NT would be perfect over 2♦ ;-)
Patrianh: lol
slothy: kept clicking 1NT Pat ..... but it did nuttin :(
cascade: nothing is safe at the three-level
Aacol: lol
cascade: She could double but there are lots of risks
Aacol: y
cascade: nothing to play at that level
cascade: or partner passing with nowhere to go
Aacol: perhaps it's better to just leave it as it is
cascade: maybe i would double
slothy: well all suits are exactly how you dont want them :)
cascade: but i would not have a strong conviction about it
slothy: mirrored in the blacks
cascade: i would prefer four hearts to double or at least better hearts than xxx
Patrianh: dble not too much risk non vul
cascade: unless partner passes and 3♦ X makes
Aacol: a X wd leave me with an awkward choice
cascade: the opponents did make a vulnerable overcall and raise
slothy: thats OK :)
Aacol: I think I'd be inclined to bid rather than pass
cascade: they probably have something
Old York: Is ♠ the recommended opening bid, I prefer 1♣ --- old fashioned again
slothy: playing with a reg p iw ould bid 2♠
cascade: I liked your previous old fashioned idea - intermediate jumps - but i prefer to open 1♠ with 5/5 in the blacks
Patrianh: ♠/♣ ♣/♠ could run for ever
cascade: occasionally a hand will come along where I will open 1♣
slothy: you gotta modernise Tony :)
Old York: :o)
cascade: for me bridge is about Majors and NTs
cascade: when you have a minimum 5/5 in the blacks ...
slothy: Kindergardens and clowns are for minors
Zelandakh: U don't use the olde rule of opening 1♠ when strong enough to rebid 3♣ and 1♣ when weaker?
cascade: even an auction like 1♣ 1NT can cause you to miss a spade fit
cascade: i hate that
Old York: But 1♣ can be more "descriptive" if you get the opportunity to rebid! lol
cascade: definitely not it is the weak hands i am worried about
cascade: that is true
cascade: but there is an *if* in there
slothy: i wouldnt be ashamed bidding 3♣ over 2!D :)
cascade: i have given one auction where there is a problem
slothy: with this hand
cascade: there are also many auctions when the opponents interfere that are problems
wackojack: i would have doubled 3♦
cascade: I might have but it is close
cascade: lots of offense suggests bidding on
Old York: 34 Kibbys, thx all! ♥
slothy: 33 ;)
cascade: bidding 4♣ is to precipitous when you might belong in 3♠ if partner has not much
cascade: but the diamond void is bad - in case partner passes
cascade: and only having three hearts is also bad
slothy: is there a plea for 2♥ by me?
cascade: incidentally if partner does have four hearts they rate to be very poor since they did not make a negative double of their own
Old York: These 20-20 hands can be the hardest
cascade: you might bid 2♥
slothy: hindsight is 20-20 too Tony
cascade: you have 10 points so some game potential over a vulnerable overcall
cascade: I would not just raise to 3♦ - too strong
slothy: yes
slothy: would generally bid 2♠
cascade: i would cue-raise to show an invitational hand or bid 2♥ as you suggest
cascade: next hand ...
